Activity Programmes

Activity Programmes on a Mental and physical level are numerous, when assessment carried out attention to client's historical background and interests/hobbies is noted to help determine an appropriate programme.

Adularia aims to work with the clients capabilities and assist them in achieving that little bit more. The individuality of the client is taken into account, so there is no standard programme as different programmes will work differently for each individual.

Holistic therapies are numerous and aim to work in unison with the natural functions of the body. The individuality of the client is taken into account, so there is no standard treatment as different processes will work for different individuals.

The objectives of Adularia Activities and Consultancy programmes are:

  • To provide interactive stimulation on a physical and mental level

  • To aid the limbic system and its functions, including emotion, behaviour, long term memory and olfaction.

  • To help improve fine motor skills involving the co-ordination of small muscles within movement i.e synchronising hands and fingers with the eyes.

  • To engage and sustain the interest of all individuals

  • To provide support and encouragement

  • To promote and enhance one’s self-belief and self-confidence wherever possible (dependent on illness)

  • To provide evidence based achievements through photography, project achievement and client record logs

We will work with an individual to find out what motivates them or captures and maintains their attention to create positive outcomes for all. We apply interactive resources using:

  • Kinaesthetic resources

  • Auditory resources

  • Visual resources

  • Olfactory resources

We are also building a programme based on rehabilitation for individuals who have suffered or are suffering the effects of a stroke on a physical, mental and emotional level.

FACT: Regular exercise benefits an individual’s general health, especially those with diseases or chronic conditions. It can reduce the severity of emotional disorders, giving a person more sense of control.

Examples to teach the brain new skills and stimulate it are as follows:

  • Cleaning your teeth with your other hand

  • Dial the telephone with your opposite hand

  • Change hands when using the remote control

Brain Training

What are the benefits?

When exercise is carried out, chemicals called endorphins are produced. These are also produced by laughing, deep breathing and meditation. Endorphins are believed to produce four key effects on the body:

  • Relieves pain

  • Reduces stress

  • Enhances the immune system

  • Postpones the aging process

Exercise reduces anxiety and depression. It also reduces stress and promotes/enhances the memory process as well as increased blood flow to the brain. Exercise strengthens the muscles, the cardiovascular system and the brain.

Some of the benefits of exercise that can be achieved include:

  • Aid relaxation and make you feel more rested.

  • Help you feel healthy and fit.

  • Can improve sleep.

  • Can help reduce tension, anxiety, depression and stress.

  • Helps prevent decline in brain function.

N.B. Mental stimulation is just as important as keeping the body fit. An individual’s mind should be exercised on a regular basis to stay healthy and prevent/delay diseases of the mind.
